Expensive Thoughts

The pavement suffocates beneath the feet
Of passers by in the street like it was no big deal
Skyscrapers drape down from the night as if it was all right
To block a warm moon with cold still
Breathing freely, they sway in the subtlest of ways
And it reminds me of you
I’ll come back if you ask me to

I’ve died for you so many deaths
Up and down the boulevard
Even tried to hold another hand understand
When I knew I’d not have yours
But breathing freely her sway, in the most obvious of ways
Reminded me of you
I’ll come back when you ask me to

Cause happiness is dangerous
Expensive thoughts
I can’t afford to be thinking
You know that I do
And gave you cause to go away
Betray my heart, cause my only art
Is the trying part

The freeway’s becoming such a dangerous phone booth
But I wouldn’t care if I had
Someone to talk to
My radio bleeds compromise
Tales of dumb becoming wise to no avail
Just like I do
Why didn’t I come back when you asked me to

Cause happiness is dangerous
Expensive thoughts
I can’t afford to be thinking
You know that I do
And gave you cause to go away
Betray my heart, cause my only art
Is the trying part
